Private Tanzania Safaris

From the migration-swept plains of the Serengeti to the wildlife-filled bowl of the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania is East Africa's grandest safari stage — refined into a private, curated journey designed around you.

Designed for couples, families, honeymooners, and private travelers from around the world.

Tanzania Safaris

Africa's Grandest Safari Stage, Curated Privately

Tanzania holds the largest share of the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem, which means the Great Migration spends most of its year on Tanzanian soil — alongside the Ngorongoro Crater's dense wildlife, Tarangire's elephant herds and ancient baobabs, and the wild, uncrowded parks of the south.

African Safari Reserve curates private Tanzania safari journeys around your timing, travel style, preferred lodge level, wildlife interests, and ideal pace — whether you are planning a honeymoon ending on Zanzibar, a calving-season photographic safari, a first African safari, or a Kenya and Tanzania combination.

Seasons

Best Time to Visit Tanzania

MonthNotes
June – OctoberDry season across the northern circuit; Mara River crossings typically unfold in the northern Serengeti from July to October, and Tarangire is at its best.
January – MarchCalving season on the southern Serengeti plains — hundreds of thousands of wildebeest calves born within weeks, with dramatic predator activity.
November – DecemberShort rains green the plains as the herds move south — quieter camps and beautiful light.
April – MayLong rains — the quietest months, with some camps closed, though the Serengeti stays open and wonderfully uncrowded.

Migration timing shifts with each year's rainfall. We help match your travel dates with the regions and camps most likely to hold the herds.

Tanzania Safari Questions

Where will the Great Migration be during my travel dates?

As a general rhythm: the southern Serengeti plains from about December to March for calving, the western corridor and Grumeti around May to July, and the northern Serengeti and Mara River from July to October. Rainfall shifts this from year to year, so we position your camps — often seasonal mobile camps — around the most likely herd locations for your dates.

Is the Ngorongoro Crater worth including?

For most first-time travelers, yes. The crater floor holds a remarkable density of wildlife, including some of Tanzania's most viewable black rhino. An early-morning descent in a private vehicle enjoys the quietest hours, and one to two nights on the rim is usually ideal.

How many days do I need for a Tanzania safari?

Eight nights covers the northern circuit — Tarangire or Lake Manyara, the crater, and two Serengeti regions — at a comfortable pace. Eleven to twelve nights allows a Zanzibar beach finale, while the remote south works best as its own journey or a return trip.

How is Tanzania different from Kenya for a safari?

Tanzania offers larger parks and hosts the migration for more months of the year, while Kenya counters with its conservancy model and shorter flying distances. Many travelers combine the two — and if you must choose, we match the destination to your dates, pace, and style.

Can a Tanzania safari end with beach time on Zanzibar?

Beautifully. Short regional flights connect the Serengeti circuit to Zanzibar's beaches, so most travelers add three to five nights of Indian Ocean time after the bush. It is one of Africa's most natural safari-and-beach pairings.

Is Tanzania a good honeymoon destination?

One of the finest. Intimate tented camps on the plains, private dinners under vast skies, hot-air balloon flights over the Serengeti, and a barefoot Zanzibar finale make Tanzania a complete honeymoon in a single country.

What are Tanzania's southern parks like?

Nyerere and Ruaha are wild, spacious, and far quieter than the northern circuit, with boat safaris on the Rufiji River, guided walking, and strong predator country. They suit return safari-goers and travelers who value solitude over famous names.
