Safari & Beach Vacations

The perfect double act: mornings tracking lions across the savanna, then a short flight to turquoise water, white sand, and absolutely nothing on the schedule.

A safari fills you up — dawn starts, dust, adrenaline, the thrill of not knowing what waits around the next bend. A beach empties you out again, in the best way: long lunches, warm water, an afternoon nap to the sound of the tide. Put them together and you have what may be the most satisfying trip shape in all of travel — the wild and the restful, each made sweeter by the other.

The logistics are easier than most travelers imagine. Zanzibar sits a short flight from Tanzania’s great parks; Kenya’s coast connects directly to the Masai Mara circuit; and South Africa pairs private-reserve safaris with the beaches and vineyards of the Cape. We sequence it all — flights, transfers, timing — so the shift from khaki to swimwear feels effortless, and the whole journey reads as one story rather than two trips stitched together.

Planning notes

Tips From Our Planning Desk

  • Always do the safari first — early mornings, then the beach as your reward. The arc matters.
  • Allow at least four nights on the beach; fewer and you barely exhale before packing again.
  • Twelve days is a comfortable minimum for a two-country bush-and-beach trip; ten works with tight sequencing.
  • Check seasonal weather on the coast as well as in the parks — we time both halves to shine.
  • Ask about snorkeling, diving, and Stone Town touring in advance so beach days can be as active or idle as you like.

Safari & Beach: Your Questions

What is the best safari and beach combination?

Tanzania plus Zanzibar is the most popular for good reason: exceptional parks and a short connecting flight. Kenya with its own coast, and South Africa with Cape Town, are equally elegant alternatives. The best choice depends on your season, interests, and time available.

How many days do I need for a safari and beach trip?

Ten to fourteen days is ideal — roughly six to eight on safari and four to six on the beach. That allows two safari areas, unhurried travel days, and a beach stay long enough to truly unwind.

How much does a safari and beach vacation cost?

Custom pricing based on travel dates, lodge category, party size, and itinerary design. Beach stays often balance the overall cost of a safari-heavy itinerary, and we can shape the split between bush and beach to fit your priorities.

Should I do the safari or the beach first?

Safari first, almost always. Game drives run on early wake-ups and full days, so finishing on the beach lets the adventure settle into rest. It also puts the most schedule-sensitive flights earlier in your trip.

Is Zanzibar worth adding to a safari?

For most travelers, absolutely. The flight from northern Tanzania is short, the beaches are among the Indian Ocean’s loveliest, and Stone Town adds history and culture. It turns a great safari into a complete journey.
