Reasonably fit and steady on your feet — treks involve steep, sometimes slippery slopes at altitude and can last from an hour to most of a day. Porters carry packs and lend a literal hand, and trekking groups are assigned with terrain and pace in mind, so most healthy travelers manage well.
Bwindi's terrain is steeper and more forested, treks can be longer, and the setting feels wilder, while Rwanda offers quicker access from its capital and a celebrated luxury lodge collection. Uganda also lets you pair gorillas with chimpanzees and savannah parks in a single loop.
