Cape Peninsula Tour

   Your driver-guide collects you from your hotel after breakfast and follows the Atlantic Seaboard through Camps Bay toward Hout Bay; on windy days the loop may run the other way.

   You cross Chapman’s Peak Drive with stops above Hout Bay and the long white sweep of Noordhoek beach, then cut across the peninsula to the national park gate.

   At Cape Point you ride the funicular or walk up to the old lighthouse, then drive to the Cape of Good Hope and, if you’re keen, walk the cliff path between the two.

   Heading north along False Bay, you stop at Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town to watch the penguins from the boardwalks.

   Lunch is usually in Kalk Bay, and the day ends with a walk in Kirstenbosch or a tasting in Constantia before you return to your hotel.

Chapman’s Peak Drive

A toll road cut into the mountainside between Hout Bay and Noordhoek, built between 1915 and 1922 and re-engineered after rockfalls. It still closes when rockfall risk is high, so your guide checks on the morning.

Cape Point & the Cape of Good Hope

The wild southern section of Table Mountain National Park. A funicular climbs toward the old lighthouse, and a clifftop path links Cape Point with the Cape of Good Hope about 2.3 km away.

Boulders Beach, Simon’s Town

A colony of African penguins that began with two breeding pairs in 1982 and now numbers about 3,000 birds, watched from boardwalks a few meters from the nests.

Kalk Bay & Muizenberg

A working harbor village and a surf beach lined with painted bathing huts on False Bay, good for lunch, galleries and a stroll before the drive back.

Good to know

• Cape Point is not Africa’s southern tip; that is Cape Agulhas, about 150 km east-southeast. Nor is it a fixed meeting point of two oceans: the Atlantic and Indian Ocean currents mingle along a shifting stretch of coast with no visible line.
• African penguins were listed as Critically Endangered in 2024. Stay on the boardwalks, keep your voice low, and never touch, feed or crowd the birds.
• Chacma baboons at Cape Point and along the peninsula are wild and bold. Keep food out of sight, keep car windows closed and never feed them.
• Conservation fees are charged at the Cape of Good Hope section of the national park and at Boulders; we confirm the current fees for your dates.
• Wind shapes the day. Your guide may reorder stops to keep you on the sheltered side, and Chapman’s Peak Drive can close after storms, in which case the route runs inland.
