A bush dinner is the evening counterpart to a safari day, and for many travelers it is the night the trip feels most complete. Your camp sets a table away from the main area — in a dry riverbed, beneath a sausage tree, on a rise above the plains — lights it with lanterns and a fire, and serves a multi-course dinner, often with meat grilled over coals. Camp staff and a guard stay close, so you can simply settle into the evening.
Because national parks restrict vehicle movement after dark, bush dinners are usually set up near camp, a short walk or drive away. They depend on the weather, and camps often suggest the best night based on the forecast and the moon — a dark, moonless sky is best for stars. We request one for honeymoons and special occasions, and for anyone who simply wants a night under the open sky.

It can be. Some camps arrange private dinners for two or for your group, while others host a shared bush dinner for the whole camp on certain nights. We ask for the format you prefer when we book.
The setting is scouted in daylight, fires and lanterns stay lit, and staff and a guard keep watch throughout. You are escorted to and from the table.
Camps watch the weather closely and will move the dinner to another night or a sheltered spot. In the rainy months, treat it as a lovely possibility rather than a fixed plan.
